Early crime career

Escobar is the son of a farmer and a schoolteacher. He began his crime career early with smuggling stereo equipment, cigarettes and even stealing tombstones. The first time he got arrested was in 1974 after stoling cars
He thereafter escalated to drug smuggling, a more lucrative business.

At the top of its career, his earning were estimated $420 million a week. He spent his life spending money : Luxury houses, planes, cars and despite his best efforts, Don Pablo couldn’t spend all his money : the treasure was stored in warehouses. While his family was on the run in 1992, it is said Escobar burned some cash ($2 million) in order to keep his daughter warm. The Dollar note is a good combustible substance.

Pablo offered to pay $10 billion (the equivelent of the country’s debt) if they change the extradition treaty conditions.

According to his brother, about 10% of the treasury was eaten by rats or destroyed by water.

The Hacienda Nápoles

Pablo Escobar owned a huge number of homes (141), but his most-notable property was the estate known as Hacienda Nápoles. It included a soccer field, dinosaur statues, an airstrip, tennis court, and even a zoo.
The front gate of which is topped by the plane he used on his first drug run to the U.S. It is now a popular tourist attraction.

Robin "Escobar" Hood

Escobar became known for his philanthropic efforts, which led to the nickname “Robin Hood” from the poor people: he built hospitals, stadiums, and housing for the poor. His popularity among Colombians was clear when he was elected to an alternate seat in the country’s Congress in 1982.

Plato o Plomo ?

"Plata o plomo ? " is a Colombian Spanish that translates to “Money or a bullet”

A person saying the phrase is telling the listener to either accept a bribe (plata, meaning “silver,” a common slang term for money in Colombia) or lose their life (plomo, a metonym for “lead bullet”).

He reportedly killed some 4,000 people, including numerous police officers and government officials.

La Catedral

In 1991 Escobar offered to turn himself in to authorities if he was allowed to build his own prison. Colombian officials agreed !

The result was the luxurious "La Catedral", including a nightclub, a sauna, a waterfall, and a soccer field; telephones, fax machines. He could run all his business from his prison/office. Escobar escaped easily in July 1992.

King of Smugglers

No one else was more successful at smuggling cocaine than Colombia’s Pablo Escobar.
Cocaine was the illegal drug of choice and Pablo was there to make it reach places no one else could: Don Pablo smuggled up to 15 tons of cocaine each day. delivering 80% of the cocaine to the United States in 1980. His massive fleet was: 20 helicopters, 32 yachts, 142 planes, and even submarines.

Dead end

He was killed by the Search Bloc on December 2nd of 1993 the day after his 44th Birthday. Radio triangulation technology was used to find the Escobar and was shot while escaping on the roof of the building in Medellin.
